Noah Goes Swimming

This Saturday Noah went to his friend Colin's house to celebrate Colin's 3rd birthday. Someday I'm sure they'll like playing with each other. For now, they will sit next to each other so I can take a picture. Colin is my friends Cat and Kevin's son.

On Sunday we had our first swimming lesson. My friend Colleen and her daughter Natalie are taking the class with us. Natalie is three days older than Noah. We met them when Noah and I went to a breastfeeding class at the hospital when he was only four days old.

Noah did a great job in the pool. He kicked and splashed and didn't seem overly afraid of the water, just a little wary. The idea isn't for the babies to learn how to swim, or get any skills really. It's just to get them used to and comfortable with going in the water, and to teach the parents how to hold them in the water.

Next week Darren will come so we can take pictures at the poolside (I can't be in the pool with Noah and behind the camera at the same time). The pictures I took in the locker room came out really blurry (frustration with the camera!!), but I'm posting some anyway. We'll have better pics next week.

I'm really excited about the Lee District rec center where we are taking the classes. The pool is enormous and the grounds look great for running around. There is a playground area (though I didn't see swings) and there is a merry-go-round and a train car. It'll be fun to take him there over the summer when he's able to walk.

Speaking of mobility, he's still not crawling but getting closer all the time and I know it's just going to happen suddenly. He gets up on all fours and rocks back and forth all the time. and he seems to be getting the idea of putting one leg in front of the other, but hasn't been able to coordinate that with moving his hands forward. So he's still mostly scooting backwards.
